In a boost to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Indian Army has placed an order for 50 new-gen Tank Transporter Trailers

Aatmnirbhar Bharat is now more than just a buzzword and with the aim of incorporating more indigenous technology and weaponry, the Indian Army regularly signs new deals with local manufacturers. In another such big step, the army has signed a Rs 224 crore contract for 50 Tank Transporter Trailers.

The Indian Army on Friday (August 1) signed a contract worth Rs 223.95 crore with Bengaluru-based aerospace firm Axiscades Aerospace and Technologies. The deal is for the procurement of 212 state-of-the-art 50 Ton Tank Transporter Trailers. Indian Army’s latest deal with Axiscades marks a significant step towards enhancing its operational mobility and supporting the ‘Aatmnirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

With a rich pedigree of over 25 years in Aerospace, Defense, ESAI, Axiscades has offered cutting edge solutions over the years, that extend from concept design to manufacturing and certification.

Indian Army-Axiscades Deal: What are the broad contours?

Signed on Friday, the contract is under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, reinforcing the Indian Army’s commitment to indigenisation in defence manufacturing. Buy (Indian-IDDM) acquisition category refers to the procurement of products from an Indian vendor that have been indigenously designed, developed and manufactured with a minimum of 50% Indigenous Content (IC) on cost basis of the total contract value.

Its main aim is to promote self-reliance and indigenous defence manufacturing.

As part of its latest contract, Indian Army will get next-generation trailers which will be equipped with hydraulic/pneumatic loading ramps and steerable & liftable axles, enabling swift and efficient transportation of tanks and other Armoured (A) vehicles across diverse and challenging terrain.

Further, the advanced mobility solutions offered by these platforms will act as a force multiplier for the field army, significantly enhancing its logistical and operational capabilities.

Axiscades emerging as a key player in indigenous defence manufacturing?

Defence and technology solutions provider Axiscades on July 31 revealed that it has secured confirmed and pipeline orders exceeding Rs 600 crore from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and affiliated defence laboratories.

These orders are primarily for the design, development, and production of advanced sub-systems supporting key indigenous military platforms and upgrades.
