Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi carried out a detailed review of ongoing counter-terrorism operations and the overall security situation during a visit to forward areas in Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri, underlining the Army’s focus on sustained vigilance in one of India’s most sensitive security theatres.
The visit comes amid persistent infiltration attempts and renewed terrorist activity in the twin border districts, making operational preparedness and real-time assessment critical.
Before heading to forward locations, COAS General Dwivedi also attended a high-level security meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah, reflecting close coordination between the Army and the Ministry of Home Affairs on internal security and counter-terrorism strategy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Which formations were reviewed on the ground?
At White Knight Headquarters in Jammu, the Army Chief reviewed the operational posture of formations under the White Knight Corps, including the Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo) [CIF (R)]. It is a specialised force tasked with neutralising terror networks operating in the rugged and forested terrain of Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Army Chief General Dwivedi was briefed on ongoing operations, the effectiveness of the multi-layered security grid and measures being implemented to ensure round-the-clock vigilance.
Army’s increased focus on technology
According to the Army, deliberations during the visit placed special emphasis on the infusion of advanced technologies to enhance operational capability. This includes improved surveillance, intelligence integration, secure communications and data-driven decision-making.
General Dwivedi recently underlined that while technology is reshaping modern warfare, geography and human leadership remain decisive, particularly in complex counter-insurgency environments like Jammu and Kashmir.
How important is inter-agency synergy in counter-terror ops?
The review also focused on strengthening inter-agency coordination among the Army, central armed police forces and intelligence agencies. Enhanced synergy is seen as essential for pre-empting threats, improving response times and dismantling terror infrastructure across the border belt.
General Dwivedi commended all ranks for their professionalism, dedication and unwavering commitment to duty. He lauded their sustained efforts to maintain a high state of readiness under challenging operational and weather conditions.
The interaction, the Army said, reaffirmed its resolute focus on vigilance, preparedness and operational excellence, sending a clear message that counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir remain a top priority.
