In the most shocking incident just a few days ahead of the Republic Day 2026, at least 10 Indian Army personnel lost their lives on Thursday (January 22, 2026) after a military vehicle met with a tragic accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. Notably, the mishap comes less than a week after security forces launched Operation Trashi-I, which is still ongoing.

The accident occurred while the soldiers were moving as part of an operational deployment in the mountainous region. Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, in a statement, confirmed that are multiple casualties, including fatal. “The injured have been evacuated for further treatment,” it said.

Army vehicle accident in Doda

According to officials, the bullet-proof Army vehicle, carrying 17 personnel, was en route to a high-altitude post when the driver lost control at Khanni Top near Thananala, around 20 km ahead of Bhaderwah town on the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate road.

Rescue operations launched immediately

A joint rescue operation involving the Indian Army and local police was launched immediately after the accident. Injured soldiers were evacuated from the site under difficult terrain and weather conditions. Several of the wounded were airlifted to the military hospital in Udhampur for specialised medical treatment.

Lt Governor expresses grief

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives of 10 of our brave Indian Army soldiers in an unfortunate road accident in Doda. We will always remember the outstanding service and supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers. My deepest condolences to the grieving families,” he said in a post on X.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed sorrow over the incident and shared that the injured soldiers are receiving medical care and all necessary directions have been given to ensure the best possible treatment. The nation stands with our Armed Forces and their families in this difficult hour.
