In a shocking incident in the national capital, two men have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a 53-year-old Army Brigadier and his son outside their residence in Delhi’s Vasant Enclave. According to police, the incident took place when Brigadier Parminder Singh Arora and his 23-year-old son objected to two men drinking alcohol in public inside a parked Mercedes-Benz near their home.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Amit Goel confirmed that 49-year-old Satender and 56-year-old Sanjay Sharma have been arrested, and the vehicle involved has been seized.
How did the incident escalate?
As per the Brigadier’s account, the situation escalated after the two men refused to stop drinking despite being asked. At around 10 pm on Friday (April 11, 2026), the officer and his son stepped out for a walk and noticed the activity. “We knew they were not from our block, so I asked them not to drink in public,” Arora said.
After they refused, he contacted the police. However, even after a junior officer reached the spot, no immediate action was taken.
Soon after, seven to eight individuals allegedly arrived and attacked the Brigadier’s son, while also pushing the officer. “The policeman just stood there and did nothing,” Arora alleged.
What allegations has the family made?
The Brigadier’s wife, in her complaint, stated that when she intervened, the accused passed “comments which outraged my modesty.” The family also alleged that their complaint was not acted upon promptly at the local police station, raising concerns over police response.
Following public outrage and attention on social media, Delhi Police registered a case on Monday under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, outraging the modesty of a woman, pioting and unlawful assembly.
DCP Amit Goel said action has also been taken internally. “During the inquiry, a lapse was found on the part of the inspector (investigation), and he has been sent to district lines,” he said.
Who are the accused?
Police identified the accused as Satender, a director at Chaudhary Aviation Pvt Ltd, involved in chartered and cargo flight services and aircraft trade; and Sanjay Sharma, who runs Pandit Ji Dhaba in Mehram Nagar.
The assault triggered strong reactions on social media, particularly given that it involved a serving senior Army officer, at a time when India is commemorating 75 years of its military legacy and service.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu expressed concern over the incident, stating he was “deeply concerned” and has directed police to ensure full security for the officer’s family.
How did the Indian Army react?
Meanwhile, the Indian Army on Monday (April 13) said the military police would get involved in the matter and help the army officer who was attacked. In a statement, the Army said, “The authorities in the Indian Army have taken serious cognizance of the case. A Military Police team has been directed to assist the Officer.”
It added that the Delhi Police has been approached for expeditious investigation and to take action on priority. The second veteran said the assault was carried out by the accomplices of the two men who had been drinking, describing them as “antisocial elements.
