Over the past several weeks, many parts of the country have fallen prey to the fury of nature with villages and towns sinking under flood waters. After Dharali, Jammu, Punjab floods, some parts in Maharashtra, Manipur and Uttarakhand have gotten submerged amid heavy rains and floods.

Rising to the occasion once again is the Indian Army, which along with the National Disaster Relief Force NDRF, SDRF, others is leading flood relief and rescue operations. Currently, several units of the Indian Army are working continuously to rescue those affected in Maharashtra’s Beed, Manipur’s Imphal and Uttarakhand’s Dehradun.

Dehradun Cloudburst: What is the situation?

Due to the flooding, many students were reported stranded at Dev Bhoomi College, Premnagar. NDRF Teams conducted FWR operations and safely evacuated 497 students to a safe zone.

Maharashtra floods: How Army is leading rescue ops?

With incessant rains causing rivers and streams in Maharashtra’s Beed district to swell, dozens were left stranded in flood-hit villages. 44 people across six villages remain trapped by floodwaters – 11 in Kada, 14 in Shobha Nimgaon, seven in Pimpalgaon Gaon, six in Pimparkhed, three in Dhanora and three in Dongargan.

Indian Army’s Southern Command informed that it is continuing flood relief operations at Beed. Army Aviation helicopters from Thar Raptors Brigade of Indian Army launched swiftly, pilots braved adverse weather to reach cut-off areas for rescue mission. Stranded citizens were airlifted to safety as rescue missions continue.

Manipur floods: What is the situation?

Intermittent rainfalls across the state in the last few days caused flash floods in some districts, while landslides along the major highways have created inconvenience in public and commercial transportation. Overflowing of major rivers passing through Imphal valley has inundated low-lying dwellers in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.

On Sunday (September 14, 2025), the Indian Army extended flood relief in Shanti Khongbal, YKPI, Sabunkhok Khunou, and Thamnapokpi villages of Imphal East district, Manipur. “Despite challenging conditions, soldiers provided food, essential supplies, and manpower to assist flood-affected families,” PRO Defence Nagaland, Manipur & Southern Arunachal Pradesh said.

Meanwhile, in the flood-affection regions in Punjab and J&K, the army deployed 126 rescue columns and rescued over 21,500 civilians; provided medical aid to nearly 9,700 people, and delivered 23,500 kg of relief supplies. Engineers built 29 bridges and strengthened bundhs at 12 locations.
