As part of the wider ‘Year of Reforms’ push, the Indian Army is soon set to organise an international conference on Physical and Mental Trauma in Military Settings. Apart from addressing the crucial challenges, MILMEDICON 2025 will also boost international cooperation in military medicine.

The event, set to take place later this month, will see participation from delegates representing a number of Friendly Foreign Countries (FFCs). MILMEDICON 2025 is part of the Ministry of Defence’s declared ‘Year of Reforms’, announced in January to transform the Armed Forces into a technologically-advanced combat-ready force.

Indian Army’s international conference MILMEDICON 2025 will be conducted at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi on August 28 and 29. It will be organised by the Director General of Medical Services (Army).

MILMEDICON 2025: What is it and why is it needed?

It is no secret that military settings are more than overwhelming and even a slight exposure might leave a lasting impact on an individual. So, it needs no explanation that managing not just physical but also psychological trauma could be a challenge. The Indian Army aims to address the same with its upcoming conference.

MILMEDICON 2025 will bring together global scholars, experts, and practitioners to deliberate on critical challenges in managing physical and psychological trauma in military environments. The international conference will have a special focus on advanced combat trauma care, the application of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in healthcare, and innovative approaches in emergency medical response.

Adding further significance, the conference will celebrate the Centenary of the Military Nursing Service (MNS), recognising their exemplary service and embodiment of Nari Shakti in combat medical care.

What all is envisioned at MILMEDICON 2025?

To be organised on August 28 and 29, the conference will feature the Army Medical Corps Scientific Gallery and the MNS Centenary Gallery, highlighting milestones in military healthcare and cutting-edge research, alongside scientific sessions, panel discussions, and poster presentations.

Both a commemoration of achievements and a forward-looking initiative, MILMEDICON-2025 promises to foster global collaboration, innovation, and exchange of knowledge in the domain of military medicine.

What is ‘Year of Reforms’?

On the eve of New Year 2025, Defence minister Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting with all the Secretaries of the ministry on the eve of the New Year to review the progress on various schemes, projects, reforms and the way ahead. In order to give impetus to the ongoing and future reforms, it was unanimously decided to observe 2025 as the ‘Year of Reforms’.

This would aim at transforming the Armed Forces into a technologically-advanced combat-ready force capable of multi-domain integrated operations. Rajnath Singh exuded confidence that the ‘Year of Reforms’ will be a momentous step in the modernisation journey of the Armed Forces.

“It will lay the foundation for unprecedented advancements in the country’s defence preparedness, thus preparing to ensure the security and sovereignty of the nation amidst the challenges of the 21st century,” he said.
