Pakistan Breaches Ceasefire In J&K’s Leepa Valley, Indian Army Hits Back Hard After Unprovoked Firing

The calm along the LoC since May was largely due to India’s decisive military operations earlier this year. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, targeted and destroyed nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

In yet another instance of unprovoked aggression, the Pakistani Army opened fire on Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Leepa Valley on the night of October 26-27. A ceasefire was agreed between India and Pakistan on May 10, following Operation Sindoor.

India had launched retaliatory strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in May 2025.

Pakistani troops used small arms and mortar shelling, targeting Indian posts without provocation, marking a clear violation of the existing ceasefire agreement. However, the Indian Army troops too retaliated strongly, silencing enemy positions with precision fire, India Today reported citing sources.

While the situation has since stabilized now, the violation once again reflects Islamabad’s habitual disregard for peace commitments. Worth noting here is that this marks the first major ceasefire breach since May 10, 2025, when Pakistan sought a truce after facing heavy losses during Operation Sindoor.

Pattern of provocations: Pakistan’s troubling track record

While Pakistan publicly commits to ceasefire understandings, its actions often tell a different story. In August 2025, reports had emerged of firing in the Poonch region, though the Indian Army officially denied any confirmed violations at the time. ” It is clarified that there has been NO ceasefire violation along the Line of Control,” the Army said in a statement.

Analysts say the Leepa Valley incident fits a familiar pattern of aggression followed by denial, which is often aimed at diverting attention from internal instability or cross-border terror infrastructure.

How Operation Sindoor became the turning point

The calm along the LoC since May was largely due to India’s decisive military operations earlier this year. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, targeted and destroyed nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had confirmed that over 100 terrorists linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen were neutralised.

In response, Pakistan attempted drone and missile strikes, most of which were neutralised by India’s air defence systems. The Indian Air Force then launched retaliatory air strikes on 11 Pakistani military bases, forcing Islamabad to sue for ceasefire.

The latest flare-up in Leepa Valley once again exposes Pakistan’s duplicity and inability to uphold peace along the LoC. While India remains committed to maintaining stability, officials have made it clear that any provocation will invite a strong and calibrated response.
