Indian Army last month launched Operation Trashi-I, during which the security forces focused on forested and mountainous areas of Kishtwar, including Chatroo, Sonnar, Dolgam and Dichhar, involving multiple cordon and search operations. Over the past few weeks, the troops eliminated 6 terrorists, as part of the operation.

It was, however, Tyson – Army’s assault dog – who took the first bullet while leading the entry into the terrorists’ hideout. Indian Army’s White Knight Corps on Tuesday (February 24, 2026) hailed the bravery of Tyson, who was injured during Operation Trashi-I in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district.

Despite being hit during the initial entry, Tyson continued the assault, helping security forces confirm the presence of terrorists and successfully complete the mission.

Operation Trashi-I: Tyson took the first bullet

According to the White Knight Corps, Tyson was leading the entry team into a forest hideout when he came under fire. “In the recent Operation Trashi-I at Kishtwar, Assault Dog ‘Tyson’ displayed extraordinary courage by taking the first bullet while leading the entry into the terrorists’ hideout,” the Corps said in a post on X.

Even after being injured, Tyson pressed forward, forcing the terrorists to open fire. This confirmed their location and allowed troops to respond precisely. Security forces from the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF then engaged and neutralised three Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.

Tyson recovering, ‘a true warrior’

The Army shared that Tyson is currently recovering. “Wounded yet in high spirits, alert and recovering well, Tyson exemplifies unwavering devotion to duty — a true warrior and a soldier in every sense,” the White Knight Corps said.

The formation also reiterated that operations against terrorists in the region will continue.

What is Operation Trashi-I?

Operation Trashi-I was launched in January and is focused on clearing terrorists hiding in the forested and mountainous areas of Kishtwar, including Chatroo, Sonnar, Dolgam, Dichhar. It involves sustained cordon and search missions in difficult terrain.

In recent weeks, security forces have intensified operations in the Jammu region, particularly in upper reaches where terrorists attempt to use dense forests as cover. The White Knight Corps said that six terrorists have been eliminated in the past 20 days in the Jammu region. Key operations include:

Operation KIYA (February 4): Two terrorists killed in Jophar Forest area of Basantgarh.

Operation Trashi-I (February 4): One terrorist neutralised in Dichhar, Kishtwar.

Subsequent Trashi-I operations: Three more terrorists killed during continued cordon and search missions.

Security forces have stated that search operations are ongoing to ensure that no hostile elements remain in the area.

Meanwhile, terrorists have increasingly shifted to dense forests and high-altitude areas to evade detection in recent years. On February 22, Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi reiterated commitment to ensure lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir, with zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms.
