The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) recently conducted its inaugural Flight Safety Seminar along with the First Annual Flight Safety Meeting at the Sam Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. During the event, held on December 23–24, 2025, enriching discussions on latest technologies, best practices and aviation challenges were live streamed.
ICG’s maiden Flight Safety Seminar marks a significant milestone in strengthening aviation safety and operational excellence across Coast Guard air operations. The first edition of Flight Safety Compendium was also released, which featured case studies of ICG aviation accidents, safety advisories.
Civil aviation leadership underscores safety culture
The event was graced by Samir Kumar Sinha, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Sinha highlighted the critical role of ICG aviation assets in safeguarding India’s maritime interests and stressed the paramount importance of a robust safety culture in aviation operations.
He lauded the professionalism, reach and rapid responsiveness of Coast Guard aircraft in executing maritime security, search and rescue, and humanitarian assistance missions, calling them a vital pillar of national maritime safety.
Expert deliberations on flight safety and operations
According to the Indian Coast Guard statement, the seminar featured expert lectures by leading military and civil aviation specialists, covering key areas such as aviation safety and operational practices; airworthiness and maintenance protocols; human factors in flight operations.
Further, the sessions enabled a meaningful exchange of best practices and operational insights, contributing to enhanced flight safety awareness among participants.
Joint participation: A collaborative approach
The event witnessed participation not only from Indian Coast Guard personnel but also from a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including representatives from other defence services, civil aviation authorities, allied organisations. This broad-based participation reflected a joint and collaborative approach towards strengthening flight safety across India’s aviation ecosystem.
During the First Annual Flight Safety Meeting, comprehensive reviews of existing flight safety measures were undertaken. Operational inputs received from various Coast Guard units were deliberated upon, with the aim of further reinforcing safety frameworks across ICG aviation operations.
Flight Safety Compendium unveiled
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of the First Edition of the Indian Coast Guard Flight Safety Compendium by the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation. The publication underscores the ICG’s proactive approach to institutionalising safety knowledge and best practices within the organisation.
The seminar reaffirmed the Indian Coast Guard’s steadfast commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety, ensuring mission readiness while serving the nation’s maritime security and humanitarian responsibilities.
