India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Saturday (April 25, 2026) unveiled two advanced armoured platforms—one tracked and one wheeled—at the premises of the DRDO’s laboratory in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra

The platforms, designed and developed by DRDO’s Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE), were unveiled by DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V. Kamat.

Both vehicles are equipped with an indigenously developed 30 mm crewless turret—a system that allows the weapon to be operated remotely without a crew member physically inside the turret. The turret is also configured to fire anti-tank guided missiles and is paired with a 7.62mm PKT machine gun.

The platforms are powered by a high-power engine with automatic transmission, giving them a strong power-to-weight ratio and high-speed capability.

In a press release, the Ministry of Defence said, “They are designed to negotiate steep gradients and obstacles and carry STANAG Level 4 and 5 protection—a NATO-standard rating for ballistic and blast resistance. Both vehicles are also amphibious, equipped with hydro jets for water crossing.”

DRDO said the base design can be adapted for multiple battlefield roles, adding operational flexibility for the armed forces.

A notable aspect of the programme is its indigenous content, currently at 65%, with plans to scale it up to 90%. The vehicles have been manufactured by two industry partners—Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Bharat Forge Limited—with support from several MSMEs.

The unveiling was attended by senior DRDO scientists, directors from multiple defence laboratories, and representatives from the two manufacturing firms.

These platforms are particularly suited to India’s varied and demanding operational terrain, where mobility, firepower, and the ability to cross water obstacles are critical.
