Ahead of the second round of talks with Iran in Pakistan, US President Donald Trump has escalated criticism of Tehran, saying that the new deal under his administration would be “far better” than the previous joint action plan.
Trump also reiterated his hardline stance that Iran would never be allowed to have nuclear weapons, while suggesting that regime change in Tehran was imminent.
The US President noted that his actions on Iran would ensure global security, and the remarks came even as the US delegation led by Vice President J. D. Vance was reportedly heading to Islamabad for the second round of talks with the Iranian delegation, mediated by Pakistan.
“The DEAL that we are making with Iran will be FAR BETTER than the JCPOA, commonly referred to as “The Iran Nuclear Deal,” penned by Barack Hussein Obama and Sleepy Joe Biden, one of the Worst Deals ever made having to do with the Security of our Country,” Trump posted on his Truth Social handle on Monday (April 20, 2026).
“It was a guaranteed Road to a Nuclear Weapon, which will not, and cannot, happen with the Deal we’re working on. They actually gave $1.7 Billion Dollars in “GREEN” Cash, loaded into a Boeing 757, and flown to Iran for Iranian leadership to spend anyway they saw fit,” Trump said in comments aimed at the domestic audience in the US.
“He emptied out all of the Cash from Banks in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland. Those Bankers said they’ve never seen anything like it before. In addition, Hundreds of Billions of Dollars was paid to Iran. If I did not terminate that “Deal,” Nuclear Weapons would have been used on Israel, and all over the Middle East, including our cherished U.S. Military Bases,” he claimed.
“The Fake News, like Lightweight Washington Post “Journalist” David Ignatius, loves to talk about the JCPOA, knowing that it was DANGEROUS, and a Complete Embarrassment to our Country,” Trump said, targeting the media that are often critical of him.
“If a Deal happens under “TRUMP,” it will guarantee Peace, Security, and Safety, not only for Israel and the Middle East, but for Europe, America, and everywhere else,” he said.
“It will be something that the entire World will be proud of, instead of the years of Embarrassment and Humiliation that we have been forced to suffer due to incompetent and cowardly leadership!” his post read.
Trump also declared that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons while also suggesting that political change in Tehran could be on the horizon.
He asserted that “Iran can never have a nuclear weapon,” underlining what he described as a non-negotiable position of his administration.
Returning to his pet theme of regime change in Tehran, Trump claimed a shift in leadership could lead to a more stable and prosperous future for the country.
Trump’s comments were indicative of the broader US strategy during the present West Asian conflict that began on February 28 when the American Israeli airstrikes on Iran killed its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
He also criticised the opinion polls on the West Asian conflict that seemed to go against his policies as “rigged” and questioned their credibility.
He suggested that public sentiment does not accurately reflect support for his administration’s actions.
Despite the preparations for the second found to diplomatic talks to end the West Asian war, mistrust between Washington and Tehran is at an all-time high after the American naval blockade of Iranian ports after a ceasefire announcement on April 8, 2026.
