Fresh Pakistan-Afghanistan Border Clashes Result In One Fatality, Five Injured

Taliban officials in Kabul alleged that Pakistan was repeatedly shelling and carrying out airstrikes across the border, justifying the attacks on Afghanistan as military operations against the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants. Pakistan has previously accused Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers of providing a haven to the TTP militants, who were tormenting the Pakistan Army with targeted attacks. Kabul has vehemently denied the accusations from Islamabad.

A fresh border clash between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Thursday (April 2, 2026) has resulted in one fatality and left five others injured.

The heavy exchange of fire between the militaries of the two neighbouring nations along the Durand Line separating them was reported from multiple sectors, according to reports.

Officials said the border fighting was concentrated in the Nawapas area of Bajaur, opposite Afghanistan’s Kunar province, and in the Lower Dir-Bin Shahi belt facing Dangam district.

The two regions have been quite sensitive and have been flashpoints for previous military clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan along the rugged borders.

However, Pakistan airstrikes and cross-border shelling have adversely impacted civilians inside Afghanistan, with several casualties reported, including a previous attack on a civilian hospital building.

Taliban officials further claimed that the recent escalations in the border clashes signalled an expanding conflict and an aggressive posturing by Pakistan.

Previously, Qatar and Turkiye had brokered a truce between the two sides after a deadly cross-border attack that had killed over 70 people. But the truce failed despite multiple rounds of talks and a short-lived ceasefire due to Eid-related festivities.
