Peace in Gaza seems like a distant dream as the deadly box of war seems wrapped by the fragile thread of a truce. Just a day after violating the US-brokered ceasefire on Tuesday (October 28, 2025), killing over 100 people, the Israeli military is reported to have breached the ceasefire again.
In the latest breach, Israel’s military conducted another deadly attack in northern Gaza, interestingly after it claimed to resume the fragile ceasefire. At least two Palestinians are learned to have been killed in the latest attack on Wednesday (October 29, 2025), news agency reported.
According to an Anadolu Ajansı report, citing sources, the bodies of two people were transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital after the strike that targeted Beit Lahia city.
Gaza ceasefire violation: Israel’s U-turn after saying peace restored?
After the latest strike, Israeli military, in a statement, claimed that the strike targeted infrastructure where weapons and aerial means were allegedly stored in Beit Lahia. It added that the army will continue to operate to remove any threat to its forces.
Witnesses told news agency Reuters that Israeli planes carried out 10 airstrikes in areas east of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, while tanks shelled areas east of Gaza City in the north. No injuries or deaths were reported.
Notably, the latest strikes by Israeli military comes just after an attack killed more than 100 Palestinians in Gaza on Tuesday. While Hamas pinned full blame on Israel, the latter said that the strikes were launched in retaliation. The Israeli Defence Minister accused Hamas of breaching key terms of the deal.
What did Trump say about the latest escalation?
Speaking aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump downplayed fears of renewed conflict, insisting that “nothing is going to jeopardise the ceasefire.” However, he also justified Israel’s military response, “As I understand it, they killed an Israeli soldier. So the Israelis hit back, and they should hit back,” Trump said.
Trump’s remarks came as Washington continues to push forward his 20-point Gaza peace plan, jointly backed by Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey.
Hamas to return hostages
After the latest strikes, Hamas has said it will release all living hostages under the ceasefire deal, in return for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and wartime detainees. The Palestinian group has also agreed to hand over the remains of all 28 dead hostages. It has returned 15 bodies.
The militant group’s armed wing announced on Thursday that it would hand over two more bodies of hostages at 4 p.m. local time (1400 GMT).
Israel has killed more than 68,600 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 170,000 others in deadly attacks in Gaza since October 2023. The destructive war came to a halt under a ceasefire deal that took effect on October 10 under US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan.
