At least three Indian warships are currently deployed in the Gulf region to provide security and escort India-bound cargo vessels to safety. The details of the warships currently operating in the Gulf region, though, were not immediately available.
The warships were put on standby to assist and help, when required, to secure the India-bound cargo traffic, against the backdrop of the West Asian military crisis, according to Indian Ministry of Defence officials.
Meanwhile, OSINT expert Damien Symon posted on his X handle @detresfa_ on Saturday (March 14, 2026): “Three Indian Navy warships appear to have arrived in the Gulf of Oman, likely to escort merchant vessels amid the tense security situation in the region – Indian flagged LPG Tanker SHIVALIK, IMO 9356892 is currently being escorted as per tracking data.”
He also posted a map from Vesselfinder that clearly showed two Indian warships escorting LPG tanker Shivalik from the Shipping Corporation of India through the Gulf of Oman.
On Saturday (March 14), the Indian Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Ministry updated the maritime traffic in the Persian Gulf region and provided details of the government’s effort to provide safety to Indian vessels and seafarers.
A ministry official said 24 Indian-flagged cargo vessels with 688 Indian seafarers were currently in the Gulf region.
The official said the Directorate General of Shipping was coordinating with the ship owners, sailor recruitment agencies, and several Indian missions in the Gulf region on the safety of the vessels and crew members, apart from monitoring the situation in West Asia.
