Indian Naval Ship INS Savitri, an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) of the Indian Navy, arrived at Port Beira, Mozambique, as part of its ongoing deployment in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The ship was accorded a warm ceremonial welcome by personnel of the Mozambique Navy, underscoring the longstanding historical bonds and growing maritime partnership between the two nations.
During the port call, personnel from both navies will engage in joint training and professional exchanges aimed at strengthening interoperability and cooperation in future maritime operations. Key activities will include:
Professional discussions on navigation and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance.
Hands-on VBSS (Visit, Board, Search and Seizure) drills, enhancing operational coordination.
Damage control and firefighting exercises to share best practices in shipboard safety and emergency response.
Further, as part of its community engagement initiatives, the Indian Navy’s offsore patrol vessel will also open its decks to visitors, offering an opportunity to showcase India’s naval capabilities and commitment to regional maritime security. The outreach activities are aimed at fostering goodwill and deepening people-to-people ties between India and Mozambique.
In addition, a medical camp will be organised for the local community to reinforce bonds of friendship and goodwill. INS Savitri’s visit will end with joint Yoga sessions and friendly Futsal sports fixtures, fostering camaraderie and team spirit among the personnel from both the navies.
The visit by INS Savitri reflects the Indian Navy’s commitment to enhancing maritime security and cooperation with friendly nations in the Indian Ocean Region. Such deployments are part of India’s larger vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR), promoting peace, stability, and mutual prosperity across the Indo-Pacific.
Earlier in September 2025, the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS) comprising INS Tir, INS Shardul, INS Sujata, and ICGS Sarathi concluded its four-day port visit to Mozambique’s Maputo, in a demonstration of enduring maritime friendship between the two nations.
