Fresh tensions erupted along the Line of Control (LoC) late Monday night (October 13, 2025), with firing and explosions reported from Machil and Dudniyal sectors in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Troops detected suspicious movement near the Machil sector, triggering an immediate counter-response.
Two terrorists were eliminated in the ongoing operation, officials confirmed. The security forces acted on the basis of specific intelligence input received, regarding likely infiltration attempt. It was then that a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and J&K Police in Machhal Sector, Kupwara.
“Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Large quantity of weapons and equipment recovered,” Indian Army’s Chinar Corps unit shared on X.
How Did the Army Respond to the LoC Activity?
Army officials stated that around 7 pm, troops observed suspicious movement along the LoC in the Kupwara sector and opened fire. Operations are continuing in the area to neutralize any remaining threat, according to a report in India Today. In the nearby Dudniyal sector, multiple blasts were reported, prompting fears of a coordinated infiltration effort.
“Flares were fired to illuminate the area and check for movement across the border,” a source told the publication.
Why is the LoC on high alert?
The incidents come at a time of heightened alert along the LoC due to recent ceasefire violations and indications of increased militant activity across the border. Security forces remain engaged in counter-infiltration operations, with more details awaited.
Another major security threat in Punjab?
Even as counter-operations continue in J&K, the western front saw a surge in drone-based smuggling activity along the India-Pakistan international border in Punjab. The Border Security Force (BSF) seized five drones carrying narcotics and arms in separate incidents across Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts over the weekend.
Acting on specific intelligence, BSF teams on Saturday recovered a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone near Naushera Dhalla village. Hours later on Sunday, another DJI Mavic 4 Pro drone was seized from fields near Havelian village, along with a 1 kg packet of heroin.
In Amritsar district, vigilant troops brought down a DJI Air 3 drone near Rajatal village and recovered 566 grams of heroin. In a nearby field, another DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone was seized along with 586 grams of heroin.
Was weapon smuggling also attempted?
In another major recovery near Dal village in Tarn Taran, BSF personnel located a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone carrying a pistol and a magazine. “These back-to-back recoveries highlight the BSF’s operational effectiveness to prevent aerial infiltration of narcotics and arms via rogue drones from across the border,” a BSF spokesperson said.
The incidents underscore an expanding threat matrix, ranging from infiltration bids along the LoC to drone-enabled narcotics and arms smuggling in Punjab.
