On the eve of the 77th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu made an address to the nation, in which shared how India is serving as the messenger of world peace, amid heightened global uncertainities and geopolitical tensions. The future of humanity can remain secure only if there is peace in the whole world, she stressed.
In her address on Sunday evening (January 25, 2026), the President also noted India’s precision strikes against terror infrastructure through Operation Sindoor, conducted in May 2025. During the operation, terror centres were destroyed and many terrorists met their end, President Murmu recalled.
With this, she underlined that it was India’s self-reliance in the field of defence that powered the historic success of Operation Sindoor. “Based on the strength of the Army, Air Force, and Navy, people have complete trust in our defence-preparedness,”President Murmu said in her Republic Day 2026 eve address.
How India is spreading world peace
From Russia-Ukraine, Gaza war to Iran protests, several events across the globe are disturbing the world order, but India continues to propagate peace.
“In our tradition, we have been offering prayers for peace to prevail in the entire universe. The future of humanity can remain secure only if there is peace in the whole world. In an atmosphere marked by conflicts in many parts of the world, India is spreading the message of world peace,” the President highlighted.
India recording continuous growth
Even as global uncertainities continue to hamper peace and order across economies, President Murmu shared that India is recording continuous economic growth. She highlighted that the country is the world’s fastest-growing major economy, noting that the country is moving towards achieving the goal of becoming the world’s third-largest economy in the near future.
President Droupadi Murmu today underlined that in the journey of shaping the country’s economic destiny, Atma-nirbharata and Swadeshi are the guiding principles. She lauded India’s young entrepreneurs, sportspersons, scientists, and professionals for energising the nation and making their mark globally.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the charged address delivered by President Droupadi Murmu on the eve of Republic Day. He stated that the President has aptly highlighted the uniqueness of India’s Constitution and appreciated the collective spirit that has carried the nation forward.
Indian Constitution: Bedrock For Spirit Of Nationalism
Urging everyone to work together with the spirit of ‘Nation First’ and make India even more glorious, the President underlined that said that Republic Day is an opportunity to strengthen the strong feeling of patriotism.
She also mentioned that the Indian Constitution is the foundational document of the largest republic in the world’s history, highlighting that the ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution define a country’s Republic. “Framers of the Constitution provided a strong bedrock for the spirit of nationalism and the unity of the country through constitutional provisions.”
With this, the President expressed confidence that the power of youth will play a leading role in the making of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
150 years of Vande Mataram
Celebrations marking 150 years of the composition of ‘Vande Mataram’ are also being organised since November 7, 2025. President Murmu, also talked about India’s national song in her speech, sharing how it is a prayer to the divine form of Bharat Mata, and instils patriotism in every Indian.
The great nationalist poet Subramanya Bharati composed the song “Vande Mataram Yenbom”, in the Tamil language, meaning “Let us chant Vande Mataram”, and connected the masses on an even larger scale with the spirit of Vande Mataram. Translations of this song in other Indian languages also became popular.
‘150 Years of Vande Mataram’ is also the theme of this year’s Republic Day celebrations.
