Red Fort Blast: After Car Explosion Kills Eight, CISF Says Delhi Airport, Metro Put On High Alert

A blast in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station in Delhi on Monday (November 10, 2025) evening left several people injured, according to state broadcaster Doordarshan.
The injured have been rushed to the Lok Nayak Jaya Prakash Hospital. Several media outlets have reported eight casualties so far. RNA has not been able to independently verify the toll.
What happened at Red Fort in Delhi?
Speaking to ANI, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the explosion occurred around 7 pm in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort. The blast injured pedestrians and damaged multiple vehicles.
According to the Delhi Fire Department, the explosion caused nearby vehicles to catch fire, leading to further damage in the area. “A call was received regarding an explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, after which three to four vehicles also caught fire and sustained damage,” the department said in a statement quoted by ANI.
Seven fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze. Teams from the Delhi Police Special Cell, forensic unit, and dog squad were among the first responders.
Shah said that within ten minutes of receiving information about the blast, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Delhi Special Branch reached the spot. The National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), have now begun a detailed investigation. Orders have been issued to examine all nearby CCTV cameras.
“The Delhi CP and the Special Branch in-charge are present at the spot. We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation, taking all possibilities into account,” Shah said, adding that he would visit the site and the hospital shortly.
Was the Red Fort blast a terror attack?
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said that it had put the installations it secured in the National Capital Region (NCR), including Delhi Metro and IGI Airport on high alert. “The situation is being constantly monitored and personnel are on standby,” the force said in a social media post.
Theories about the blast being caused becuase of the CNG tank in the car are doing rounds on social media. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion. So far, no link to terrorism has been suggested by officials, despite speculation on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter).
