Over the past few days, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been striking and eliminating several “terrorist” and on Sunday (February 1, 2026), it confirmed carrying out a targeted strike in southern Lebanon. The strike killed Ali Dawood Amich, a senior Hezbollah operative, in the latest escalation along the volatile Israel–Lebanon border.

According to the IDF, Amich headed a branch within Hezbollah’s engineering department and was actively involved in efforts to restore military infrastructure for the Iran-backed group in the al-Dweir region. Israeli officials said the activity posed an immediate threat to Israeli forces operating near the frontier.

The Israeli military accused Amich of advancing planned attacks against IDF units, saying his actions violated existing “understandings between Israel and Lebanon” aimed at preventing a wider conflict.

The killing comes against the backdrop of intensifying clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, which have repeatedly exchanged fire since the outbreak of the Gaza war, raising fears of a broader regional escalation. Southern Lebanon has seen frequent Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire, while Hezbollah has launched rockets, anti-tank missiles and drones towards northern Israel.

In a fresh update on Monday (February 2, 2026), the IDF shared an operational update on Lebanon, informing Ali al-Hadi Mustafa al-Haqqani, a senior officer in the Hezbollah terrorist organization’s aerial array, was eliminated. “Al-Haqqani had recently been involved in efforts to rehabilitate military infrastructure,” it claimed.

Further, a terrorist who was involved in attempts to rehabilitate Hezbollah military infrastructure, was eliminated in Ansariya.

On January 29, 2026, the IDF stated that it has struck a Hamas terrorist who was planning to carry out an imminent terror attack against IDF troops operating in southern Gaza. “The terrorist posed an imminent threat to the troops and was therefore targeted in a precise strike, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement,” it said.

While Hezbollah has not immediately commented on the IDF’s claim, the group has previously warned that Israeli strikes deep inside Lebanon would invite retaliation.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah, which is a Shia Muslim political and military group in Lebanon, is regarded as a terrorist organisation by Israel and many other nations, including the UK and US. The latest Hezbollah-Israel conflict erupted in October 2023, following the start of the Gaza war, as the group targeted Israel in solidarity with its ally Hamas.
