Pakistan, on Tuesday (April 21, 2026), reportedly test-fired an anti-ship missile with the capability to hit long-range targets at sea.

The Pakistan Navy successfully tested the weapon system, named Taimoor, claimed to be an air-launched cruise missile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said in a statement.

“The Air-Launched Cruise Missile executed its mission with exceptional precision, validating Pakistan Navy’s combat capability to detect, target and decisively neutralise enemy sea-based threats at extended ranges,” the ISPR said.

The ISPR called the Taimoor an example of a “powerful demonstration of precision strike capability and operational readiness.”

The demonstration marked a pivotal elevation of national defence capability, further strengthening Pakistan’s armed forces’ multi-dimensional coordinated trike posture and capabilities in the conventional domain, it added.

“Pakistan Navy stands resolute in its commitment to safeguard the nation’s maritime interests and sovereign waters,” the statement read.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and services chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers on achieving the significant milestone, it added.

Taimoor is said to be an indigenously developed system designed to detect, track, and engage enemy vessels, forming part of Pakistan’s broader push to enhance its conventional deterrence and reduce reliance on imported weapons.

India, which is obviously the reason for the Taimoor development, had not yet reacted to the missile test at the time of publication of this report.
