Reinforcing the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Indian Army’s in-house innovation ‘Vidyut Rakshak’ has received a patent marking a landmark achievement. The indigenous integrated generator monitoring, protection, and control system has been developed by Major Rajprasad R.S.
The innovation marks a major stride in the Army’s journey toward self-reliance and battlefield efficiency. The Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) announced the milestone on X, calling it “yet another achievement” in in-house military innovation.
What makes ‘Vidyut Rakshak’ a game-changer for field operations?
According to the Army, Vidyut Rakshak enables integrated monitoring of multiple generators; protection and control across different types, makes, ratings and ages; optimisation of resources; enhanced operational efficiency. This means the Army can now manage diverse power systems, critical during high-tempo deployments, with seamless precision and reduced manpower.
The patent, valid for 20 years from June 13, 2023, has been granted under the Patents Act, 1970.
Vidyut Rakshak: What features set the system apart?
A video released by ADGPI highlighted the system’s standout attributes:
- Modular, compact and lightweight design
- Real-time monitoring of electrical and mechanical parameters
- Fault prediction and prevention
- User-friendly GUI dashboard
- Automation of manual operations
These capabilities drastically reduce downtime and improve readiness in forward areas.
Who is the officer behind this innovation?
Major Rajprasad R.S., from the Corps of Engineers, has emerged as one of the Army’s most prolific defence tech innovators. This is not his first recognition. In June 2025, he was honoured with the NSG Counter-IED Innovator Award for two pathbreaking systems – Agniastra: Multi-Target Portable Remote Detonation System; Shatrunash: Handheld EMP Gun.
His latest patented innovation further cements his reputation as a driving force behind indigenous military modernisation.
Why is this a strategic win for the Indian Army?
The patent signals multiple long-term gains which include reduced dependence on imported control systems, custom solutions tailored to Indian battlefield needs, enhanced logistics management and reliability, force-wide scalability across terrains and commands. It also reinforces the Army’s role as not just a user but a creator of defence technology, in line with the national vision of Aatmanirbharta.
