Saluting the jawans who were martyred during a recent accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, the Indian Army on Friday (January 23, 2026) paid solemn tributes to 10 soldiers, thanking for their selfless service to the nation. The soldiers lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Doda on Thursday (January 22, 2026).

The fatal accident occurred on Thursday at Khanni Top, located at an altitude of around 9,000 feet along the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate road. An armoured Army vehicle, carrying troops for an anti-terror operation, lost control and plunged into a deep gorge, resulting in the death of 10 soldiers and injuries to 11 others.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Technical Airport in Jammu to honour the fallen soldiers. The ceremony was led by Lieutenant General PK Mishra, General Officer Commanding of the White Knight Corps. Senior officers from the Army, Indian Air Force, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), along with police and civil administration officials, attended the tribute.

“In solemn remembrance, the GOC, WhiteKnightCorps paid heartfelt tribute to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in a tragic vehicular accident while moving on operational duty through treacherous terrain and extremely challenging weather conditions in the general area of Doda,” the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps shared.

Their unwavering devotion to duty, fortitude in hostile terrain and selfless service to the nation epitomise the highest traditions of the Indian Army. Their supreme sacrifice will forever remain a source of inspiration for generations, it added, noting that the White Knight Corps stands shoulder to shoulder with the bereaved families.

Wreaths were laid on behalf of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Senior officials including Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti and CRPF Jammu IG R Gopal Krishna Rao also paid their respects at the tricolour-draped coffins.

Who were the fallen soldiers?

The soldiers killed in the accident were identified as Monu Singh (Bulandshahar), Mohit (Jhajjar), Shailendra Singh Bhadoriya (Morar), Sepoy Samiran Singh (Jhargram), Sepoy Pradumna Lohar (Purulia), Sudhir Narwal (Yamunanagar), Hare Ram Kunwar (Bhojpur), Jobanjeet (Roopnagar), Ajay Lakra (Ranchi), Rinkhil Baliyan (Hapur).

The mortal remains of the soldiers were dispatched to their respective hometowns, where they will be cremated with full military honours, officials said.

Accident during operation duty

Worth noting here is that the tragic accident came just a few days after the Army launched Operation Trashi-I in a remote forested area in the upper reaches of Kishtwar district earlier this week. A massive search operation was launched to track and neutralise the terrorists, resulting in the death of Havildar Gajendra Singh of the Special Forces.

The operation, which the Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps has named ‘Operation Trashi-I’, began around noon on January 19, 2026. In a post on X, the White Knight Corps said the security forces came in contact with the terrorists in the general area of Sonnar, in Chatroo, during a search operation conducted as part of ongoing joint counter-terror exercises along with J&K Police.

Meanwhile, a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist, identified as Usman, was killed in an encounter during a joint operation by the Army, J&K Police, and CRPF in Kathua on Friday.
