Security forces on Wednesday (July 30) neutralised 2 heavily armed terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector during the early hours of Wednesday, in a joint counter-terror operation code-named Operation ShivShakti. Troops laid ambushes on likely infiltration routes acting on synchronised intelligence inputs from the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police.

“A fierce gunfight ensued between the security forces and terrorists along the LoC, leading to the neutralisation of two terrorists and recovery of large quantities of war-like stores,” said Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Jammu.

Indian Army’s White Knight Corps said that swift action and accurate firepower thwarted the nefarious designs, adding that they have recovered 3 weapons. In a social media post, they highlighted that “synergistic and synchronised intelligence inputs” contributed to the operation’s success.

Recovered items include assault rifles, a pistol, hand grenades, two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), communication gear, medicines and other logistics. Lt Col Bartwal noted, “The huge recovery indicates the terrorists were well-prepared for prolonged engagement.”

Importantly, no civilian casualties or collateral damage were reported. “Swift, coordinated and decisive action ensured the safety of the local population,” the Defence spokesperson added.

Bartwal asserted the operation dealt a significant setback to Pakistan-sponsored terrorist organisations. “Operation ShivShakti highlights the high level of synergy, coordination and commitment on part of the Indian Army and other security agencies,” he said.

Notably, this is the second major operation by the security forces this week. Earlier on Monday (July 28), the forces killed 3 terrorists in Operation Mahadev, who were involved in the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. These terrorists were eliminated near Dachigam National Park.

Addressing Parliament on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “Those who killed our citizens in the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack have been killed.” Both operations underscore India’s reinforced counter-terror capabilities in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
