In a move aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation and professional coordination between the two premier forces, a 10-member delegation of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is on a six-day visit from December 22 to 27, 2025 to the Assam Rifles formation at Kunjaban Garrison.

The visit is being conducted under the Charter of Affiliation between the Indian Coast Guard and Assam Rifles, a structured framework designed to promote regular interaction, exchange of best practices and enhanced operational synergy.

High-level interactions at Kunjaban Garrison

During the visit, the ICG delegation called on the Deputy Inspector General of 21 Sector Assam Rifles, where discussions focused on issues of mutual operational interest, evolving regional security dynamics, and potential areas of future collaboration between the maritime and land-based security forces.

The delegation also witnessed the ceremonial Beating Retreat, offering insights into the rich traditions and heritage of the Assam Rifles, India’s oldest paramilitary force.

In a post on X, Assam Rifles informed that the visit focuses on interaction, exchange of best practices and enhanced operational synergy. The delegation interacted with the DIG, 21 Sector of Assam Rifles, discussed regional security, witnessed the Beating Retreat ceremony, and visited ICP Agartala and key cultural landmarks.

Exposure to border management and trade mechanisms

As part of the programme, the delegation visited the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Agartala, where officials provided briefings on border management mechanisms, and cross-border trade facilitation procedures. The visit offered an opportunity to understand how coordinated security measures support both national security and legitimate transnational movement.

Engagements in Tripura

The itinerary also included visits to prominent cultural and historical landmarks in Tripura, including the Ujjayanta Palace, providing the delegation with a broader appreciation of the region’s strategic and cultural significance. On December 24, 2025, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Tripura at Lok Bhavan in Agartala, further underscoring the importance of civil–military engagement in the region.

This came a day after the ICG and Assam Rifles signed a landmark MoU on December 23, 2025. This marked a significant milestone in inter-service cooperation. “Moving from symbolic association to deep operational synergy, the partnership underscores a shared commitment to professionalism, transparency, and leadership excellence,” the ICG said.

“The ceremony reflects the evolving spirit of jointmanship in India’s national security architecture, where mountain grit meets maritime resilience, bridging geography through exchange of ideas,” the coast guard stated.

Officials said the engagements highlighted the growing importance of inter-service cooperation in addressing complex security challenges that span land, maritime and border domains. The visit is expected to further enhance coordination, mutual understanding and operational readiness, reinforcing India’s integrated approach to national security.
