In a rather rare yet key diplomatic development, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday (April 7, 2026) met his counterpart from St Kitts and Nevis, Denzil Douglas, as the Caribbean nation formally inaugurated its High Commission in New Delhi. The move marks a new phase in bilateral engagement, signalling a stronger and more structured diplomatic presence in India.

The opening of a resident mission is being seen as a strategic step to deepen cooperation across sectors and enhance direct engagement between the two nations.

India and St. Kitts and Nevis maintain friendly and cordial relations, with the Caribbean nation generally being supportive of Indian’s positions in international fora. However, India has had no official structured visits with St. Kitts and Nevis in the recent past.
