Wasim Akram, a YouTuber from Haryana, has been arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Pakistan High Commission. The case adds to a pattern of alleged Pakistani intelligence activity on Indian soil, especially involving civilians recruited through digital platforms.
The arrest comes just months after similar charges were levelled against another YouTuber, Jyoti Malhotra, over sharing classified information with Pakistani handlers.
Who is YouTuber Wasim Akram and what are the allegations?
A resident of Kot village in Haryana’s Palwal district, Akram was known for uploading videos about the history of Mewat on YouTube. Police say that over the past three years, he established contact with Pakistani operatives and allegedly provided them with SIM cards, often used for secure, untraceable communication, according to officials quoted by news agency PTI.
Officials have also recovered incriminating WhatsApp chats from his phone, including deleted messages now being retrieved by the cyber cell.
What led to his arrest?
Akram’s exposure followed the detention of another alleged Pakistani spy, Taufiq, by Palwal police last week. During interrogation, Taufiq reportedly revealed Akram’s involvement, leading to a coordinated follow-up operation. Both individuals are accused of maintaining contact with the ISI and the Pakistan High Commission through internet calls.

Investigators say Akram first came into contact with a Pakistani agent named Danish in 2021 while applying for a visa to Pakistan. Although his family denies he ever travelled to the country, police claim interrogation has revealed details suggesting deeper ties.
Authorities say this may extend beyond a two-man operation. SP Varun Singla has directed the Palwal crime branch and other agencies to carry out a comprehensive probe, while the Intelligence Bureau is now collaborating on the investigation. Officials expect more arrests in the coming days.
What do investigators know about Taufiq?
Taufiq, a resident of Alimev village in the district, was arrested on September 26, 2025. Since 2022, he is accused of sending sensitive information to Pakistani handlers. During his questioning, he reportedly named Akram as a co-conspirator. “Both the accused were in touch with the Pakistan High Commission and ISI,” SP Singla said.
Crime branch teams are questioning them after taking them on police remand.
