An Indian Army vehicle met with an accident in Gujarat’s Dang district on Wednesday (January 28, 2026) during routine military movements. This notably came close on the heels of a deadly accident in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of 10 soldiers earlier this month.
While the latest incident did not result in fatalities, it triggered an intense rescue and security response after the vehicle overturned on a steep mountain road while carrying military equipment.
Army vehicle accident Gujarat: What Happened?
The accident occurred on the Saputara–Shamgahan Ghat road, a narrow and winding hill stretch, when an Army vehicle, part of a convoy travelling from Nashik to Jodhpur, lost control on a sharp curve and overturned, according to a report in The New Indian Express.
The mishap turned what was a routine logistical movement into a tense emergency, jolting the quiet ghat section into chaos within minutes.
Were there any casualties or injuries?
No deaths were reported in the Gujarat incident. However, nine soldiers sustained injuries, of whom three are said to be in critical condition. Local residents were among the first to rush to the spot, followed quickly by Dang district police teams and emergency responders.
The injured troops were initially taken to the Shamgahan Community Health Centre in 108 ambulances for primary treatment before being referred to Ahwa Civil Hospital for specialised medical care.
The seriousness of the incident was compounded by the fact that the overturned vehicle was transporting defensive military equipment, including an Army cannon. This immediately led to the enforcement of strict security protocols at the accident site, even as rescue and evacuation efforts were underway.
The accident caused a temporary traffic jam on the busy ghat road, disrupting movement along the narrow hill route. Police teams worked simultaneously to clear the congestion, restore traffic flow, secure the accident site, and assist emergency medical services.
Normal movement was gradually restored after the vehicle and equipment were secured.
Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the Gujarat wing of the Indian Army regarding the accident or the condition of the injured soldiers.
