India’s Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi on Wednesday (December 10, 2025) declared that the Indian Army is undergoing one of its most sweeping transformations in decades, powered by technology-driven human resource reforms, structured capability expansion, and deep organisational restructuring.

Speaking at the 38th Infantry Commanders’ Conference at the Infantry School in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, General Dwivedi said these changes are shaping the Army into a truly “future-ready force.”

What did the Indian Army chief say?

General Dwivedi lauded the success of Operation Sindoor, calling it a “defining example” of India’s calibrated, precise, and resolute military response mechanism, reflecting the agility and preparedness of the force in emerging operational scenarios.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to strategic autonomy, the Army chief highlighted the importance of the country’s Neighbourhood First policy in maintaining regional stability.

He also underscored the growing relevance of military diplomacy in strengthening partnerships, especially as modern conflict increasingly spans the domains of information warfare, cyber operations, and space technologies.

What did the Infantry Commanders’ Conference focus on?

The annual Infantry Commanders’ Conference, the apex platform for reviewing infantry capabilities, focused on operational readiness, training, modernisation priorities, and welfare initiatives.

Senior commanders conducted a detailed assessment of ongoing projects while mapping out future requirements for the Army’s largest fighting arm.

Across two intense days of deliberations, commanders examined ways to integrate emerging technologies, boost operational preparedness, and accelerate modernisation under the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

A major highlight was the progress on transformative structural reforms, including the rollout of Bhairav Battalions and Drone Platoons, which are expected to significantly enhance multi-domain battlefield effectiveness.

The conference concluded with a renewed commitment to the Infantry’s ethos: “Will to Transform and Lead to Victory in the Battlefield.”

Later, Gen Dwivedi felicitated veterans from Madhya Pradesh for their contributions to servicemen’s welfare, honouring Wing Commander D.P. Tiwari (Retd), Col Raj Kumar (Retd), Nb Sub Kamal Kishore Soni (Retd), Col Pradeep Singh (Retd), and Sub A.K. Sisodia (Retd).
