And soon, the army is set to get new brigades as it aims at becoming a “future-oriented force”.

Honouring the courage and valour of our army men who were martyred in the Kargil War with Pakistan in 1999, Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday announced the new “all-arms brigades” named ‘Rudra’ and a special forces unit ‘Bhairav Light Commando Battalion’.

He made the announcement while speaking at the Kargil War Memorial on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas

Rudra Brigade: What is Indian Army’s all-new unit?

As the Indian Army marches on to becoming a “future-oriented force”, it will now be setting up these all-arms brigades and powerful special forces units. Army chief General Dwivedi said the ‘Rudra’ brigade’s sanction was approved just a day earlier. “We are forming a new all-arms brigade under the name ‘Rudra’,” he stated.

Today’s Indian Army is not only successfully addressing current challenges but is also rapidly advancing as a transformative, modern, and future-oriented force. Under this, new all-arms brigades named ‘Rudra’ are being formed, Gen Dwivedi informed.

Why Rudra brigade will be an important addition for the armed forces?

As the name signifies, this new brigade announced by the Army chief will be a combination of infantry, mechanised infantry, armoured units, artillery, special forces, and unmanned aerial systems. Further, it will be backed by customised logistics and combat support.

This move is in line of out movement towards becoming a developed, modern and futuristic power.

Bhairav Light Commando Battalion: What is it and why it will be significant?

In addition to the Rudra brigade, the Army chief also talked about the inclusion of Bhairav Light Commando Battalion.” “Similarly, agile and lethal special forces units, ‘Bhairav’ Light Commando Battalions, have been established to shock the enemy on the border,” he added.

The unit is “always ready to surprise the enemy at the border,” according Gen Dwivedi, who underlined every infantry battalion now includes Drone Platoons, while artillery has enhanced its firepower manifold through ‘Divyastra Batteries’ and Loiter Munition Batteries.

Army Air Defence is being equipped with indigenous missile systems. This will increase our force multifold.

With this, the Army chief also spoke about 3 new efforts being introduced to honour the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil war. These include an ‘e-shradhanjali’, a QR code-based audio feature and the ‘Indus Viewpoint’.
