General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Southern Command, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, recently visited the School of Artillery at Devlali, reaffirming the Army’s focus on modern, outcome-oriented training. He also reviewed key training infrastructure during the visit.

According to an official statement, Lt Gen Seth was briefed on advanced training methodologies, Professional Military Education (PME) programmes and administrative initiatives aimed at sustaining high instructional standards. Interacting with faculty members, he stressed the importance of continually aligning training with contemporary operational requirements and evolving battlefield dynamics.

The Army Commander also felicitated distinguished personnel for their contributions and reviewed key infrastructure, including the Drone Experience Centre, commending the institution for fostering technology absorption and future-ready leadership.

‘Machines don’t win wars’: Focus on human edge in combat aviation

Last month, while addressing the Passing Out Parade of the Combat Army Aviation Training School (CAATS) as the Reviewing Officer, Lt Gen Seth underlined that human skill, judgment and resolve remain decisive in warfare, despite rapid advances in unmanned systems and precision platforms.

“Even with cutting-edge capability, machines do not win battles. It is the aviators operating them whose professionalism and resolve shape outcomes,” he said, highlighting that technology alone cannot guarantee battlefield success.

Army Chief’s reviews artillery modernisation

Earlier on Friday (December 12, 2025), Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi attended the Biennial Conference of the Regiment of Artillery at the School of Artillery, Devlali, underscoring the Indian Army’s push towards next-generation warfare. The conference focused on key themes such as force restructuring, modernisation and technology infusion.

Addressing station officers, COAS General Dwivedi praised their emphasis on modernising warfare practices and improving training standards, urging them to maintain momentum across all operational domains. For the past few years, the Indian Armed Forces, especially the Army, has been taking steps towards modernisation, increasing technology, drone use.
