A day after deploying an aircraft carrier in West Asia, the US on Tuesday (January 27, 2026) announced it woudl hold a major air force exercise in the region.

The move came even as Iran blew hot over the American moves against Tehran’s crackdown on domestic protestors.

However, the US did not mention the location or schedule for the exercise, keeping the global watchers of the West Asia military build up guessing.

How did the Iran situation come to a miliary build up?

Iran witnessed civil unrest since December and it grow into a mass movement by the second week of January.

A US-based human rights group had on Tuesday (January 27, 2026) reported over 6,000 Iranian citizens, and also suggested the casualty could be more than their estimates.

“They want to make a deal. I know so. They called on numerous occasions. They want to talk,” he added, but decline any miliary options in Iran.

Opinion among strategic affairs experts is that the US could carry out targetted strike inside Iran apart from trying to bring down the government in Tehran from inside.
