Greece’s Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias met with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on February 7 as part of his official visit to discuss deepening cooperation on strategic and security issues, officials said.

Dendias, who arrived in India at the invitation of Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, held talks with Jaishankar at the latter’s residence, focusing on a broad range of topics related to defence and global security.

In a post on social media platform X, Jaishankar stated, “Delighted to welcome Minister of National Defense of Greece Nikos Dendias this evening. An in-depth conversation on a wide range of strategic and security issues. Appreciate his many insights and assessments.”

Dendias also shared a post on X, saying he was “honoured” to have been received by Jaishankar in New Delhi in the context of his official visit to India. He said that their dialogue covered both regional and international developments of mutual concern.

The talks come amid growing defence engagement between India and Greece, with both sides exploring opportunities for closer collaboration in areas that include defence technology, industry cooperation and strategic consultation. Dendias’ visit also includes participation in the India-EU Forum, where he is slated to contribute to discussions on international developments and security issues, and meetings with defence industry stakeholders in Bengaluru.

The Greek minister’s trip comes amid a period of expanding interaction between New Delhi and Athens, who have been strengthening ties across diplomatic and defence channels. The visit takes place against the backdrop of the recently signed India-EU Free Trade Agreement, which has been widely seen as a landmark in India’s economic ties with Europe.
