It looked like a simulated battlefield as the Indian Army’s Battle Axe Division conducted its annual field firing exercise in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer. The Pokhran Field Firing Range in the desert city became witness to army jawans showing their defence readiness and capabilities during the yearly drill.
Located close to the Pakistan border, the desert range offers a realistic environment to test India’s combat readiness and operational effectiveness in extreme conditions.
“Warriors of Battle Axe Division carried out Annual Field Firing of Infantry Weapons at Pokhran Field Firing Ranges—displaying optimum combat effectiveness with new generation weapons & equipments; Combat Readiness of Indian Army,” the Konark Corps unit said on X.
What weapons and systems were showcased?
The exercise, themed ‘Focus, Fortitude, and Fire Power’, highlighted the Army’s deployment of next-generation infantry weapons and support systems. Assault rifles, light and heavy machine guns, sniper rifles, under-barrel grenade launchers, mortars, and anti-tank rocket systems were all demonstrated.
Troops of the Indian Army’s Konark Corps also operated personal defence weapons and tested night-vision and thermal sighting devices, giving soldiers an edge in low-visibility operations.
How is technology redefining battlefield operations?
Modern battlefield technologies were on full display. Drones and advanced surveillance equipment enhanced real-time reconnaissance, while navigation and communication devices such as GPS and secure radios ensured battlefield coordination.
The integration of state-of-the-art cannons and automatic weapons underlined the precision and destructive power of India’s evolving arsenal.
In addition to this, the exercise also included night firing drills, where explosive shells lit up the desert skies, simulating combat after dark. Mastery of night operations, enabled by thermal imagers, advanced optics, and coordinated firepower, demonstrated the Army’s capability to dominate the battlefield round the clock.
What role does the Battle Axe Division play?
Part of the Southern Command headquartered in Pune, the Battle Axe Division has long been tasked with desert warfare preparedness. Its annual Pokhran exercises serve both as a test of combat systems and as a strategic signal of India’s ability to respond decisively in the region.
Senior Army officials stressed that the core of India’s strength lies in the morale and dedication of its soldiers. Combined with advanced weaponry and cutting-edge battlefield technology, this human and technological synergy makes the Army an unbeatable force. The Pokhran demonstration reinforced India’s readiness to defend its borders and project strength under any circumstances.
