In a bid to foil infiltration attempt, the Indian Army and the Jammu & Kashmir Police, in a joint, operation neutralised 2 terrorists on Thursday (August 28) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector in J&K’s Bandipora. This came just a day after a soldier sacrificed his life while performing operational duty in Kupwara.
The Indian Army informed that 2 terrorists were killed as security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector. Codenamed Naushera Nar IV, the operation is being jointly carried out by the army and the Jammu & Kashmir Police, the army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said.
“Based on intelligence inputs from JKP regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in the Gurez sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious movement and challenged the intruders, who opened indiscriminate fire. Troops retaliated effectively, neutralising two terrorists,” it stated.
The army added that the operation is in progress.
Worth mentioning here is that the latest operation comes just a few days after the security forces on Monday (August 25) foiled an infiltration attempt in the Union Territory’s Uri sector. Earlier this month on August 13, a soldier was killed in action while troops were repelling a similar bid in the same area.
This follows the series of operations the forces launched nearly a month back which included Op Mahadev and ShivShakti, and Akhal.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara, an army jawan was killed during operational duty. The deceased has been identified as Havildar Ikbal Ali.
“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Havildar Ikbal Ali, while performing operational duty in Kupwara district. His courage and dedication will forever inspire us. Chinar Warriors salute the valour and sacrifice of the Braveheart. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved family and are committed to their well-being,” the unit posted on X.
