Pakistan, on Tuesday (April 28, 2026), targeted Afghanistan territory, reportedly in retaliation for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) counterattacks on its army personnel along the border between the two nations, forcing Kabul to summon the Pakistani envoy to issue a protest.
“The Pakistan Army, in the Chaman sector, effectively targeted and destroyed multiple Afghan Taliban posts,” reports citing an unnamed source in Pakistan as saying.
“Afghan Taliban positions at Sarshan, Al-Marjan, Edhi Post, a vehicle, and other installations were also successfully targeted,” the sources were reported as saying. Operation Ghazab Lil Haq would continue until all assigned objectives are achieved, they said.
The latest clashes came after a ceasefire in Operation Ghazah Lil Haq, launched by Pakistan on February 26, claiming it as a response to the TTP attacks on Pakistan Army’s border posts.
In the Pakistani attacks, Afghan Taliban and “Fitna al-Khawarij” were targeted by the Pakistan Army. The term “Fitna al-Khawarij” is used by the state for militants belonging to the banned TTP.
On April 15, three civilians, including two children, were killed and three others injured in alleged shelling by Afghan Taliban forces in a border area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district.
The incident marked a renewed episode of cross-border tensions after a gap of over a month following the launch of Operation Ghazab Lil Haq.
To protest the Pakistani attacks, the Taliban-governed Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Pakistani embassy’s Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul to issue a protest.
The Ministry strongly condemned the violation of Afghanistan’s airspace and the attacks against civilians. It stated that the actions of Pakistani forces are a clear violation of Afghanistan’s territorial integrity, contrary to international principles, and a provocative act.
“The Islamic Emirate categorically rejects allegations that the recent escalation started by the Afghan side, and underscores the imperative that the root causes of the situation must be investigated with due diligence,” the Afghan ministry said.
Calling on the Pakistani side to refrain from such actions, Afghanistan reiterated that it reserves the legitimate right to defend its soil and people.
It also reminded Pakistan that the continuation of such “irresponsible actions” will have “undesirable consequences.”
Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated over the past few months, with repeated exchanges of fire and growing concerns over civilian casualties.
The two nations have accused each other of contributing to instability, while diplomatic and local mediation efforts have remained futile to stop further escalation.
