Trump Sets Sight On Ending ‘Inglorious’ Russia-Ukraine War After Gaza; Hosts Zelenskyy Ahead Of Putin Meet

US President Donald Trump somehow managed to end several global conflicts and that too in record time. He put a stop to 6-7 wars in just about seven months, as Trump himself claimed before ending the Israel-Hamas war, that was ongoing for two years, leading to the deaths of around 67,000 Palestinians in Gaza.
Earlier this week, the war in Israel became the latest mega global conflict that the 47th POTUS solved with the signing of the Gaza Peace Deal in Egypt. Now, he has set his sight on ending the Russia-Ukraine war, which both the countries have been fighting over three years now.
After a failed attempt at solving the deadly conflict in August 2025, US President Trump has taken yet another step by meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and announced a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Hungary later this year.
Will Trump finally solve the Russia-Ukraine war?
Trump on Friday (October 17, 2025) hosted Zelenskyy at the White House as the latter made his case for procuring American Tomahawk cruise missiles and other military assets. Trump and Zelenskyy, wearing a dark suit, shook hands when the Ukrainian president arrived at the West Wing entrance.
Addressing the press at the White House, Trump said that he plans to address the possibility of Ukraine striking deep into Russia, an apparent reference to the US providing the missiles to Ukraine. “We’re going to be talking about that. That’s something we’ll be talking about you’re right, it’s an escalation, but we’ll be talking about that.”
During his last meeting with Zelenksyy, Trump had vowed for security guarantees for Ukraine but clarified that there won’t be American troops on the ground to help enforce a potential peace deal. In the latest meeting, however, Zelensky suggested a potential swap of Ukrainian drones for American missiles, a trade Trump seemed open to.
The Ukrainian president said that the country has “thousands” of drones, but “we don’t have Tomahawks.”
What about Trump’s upcoming meeting with Putin?
Ahead of his meeting with the Ukrainian President, US President Trump announced that he had a very productive phone call with Putin, adding he would brief Zelenskyy on the Russia talks in the Oval Office. “I believe great progress was made with today’s telephone conversation,” he added.
Trump’s latest call with Putin is the first known conversation between the two leaders since they met for a summit in Alaska in August.
“President Putin congratulated me and the United States on the Great Accomplishment of Peace in the Middle East, something that, he said, has been dreamed of for centuries. I actually believe that the Success in the Middle East will help in our negotiation in attaining an end to the War with Russia/Ukraine,” he wrote. The two also spent a great deal of time talking about Trade between Russia and the United States when the War with Ukraine is over. At the conclusion of the call, “we agreed that there will be a meeting of our High Level Advisors, next week.” President Putin and Trump will meet in an agreed upon location, Budapest, Hungary, to see if they can bring this “inglorious” War, between Russia and Ukraine, to an end.
