Pakistan’s political landscape was jolted again on Thursday (November 27, 2025), after jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), raised fresh concerns about his health and demanded immediate access to him.

The development comes amid a surge of rumours on social media about Khan’s condition, with #WHEREISIMRANKHAN trending at the top on X.com throughout the day.

What did PTI say about Imran Khan’s condition in prison?

PTI spokesperson Zulfikar Bukhari said the party had not been allowed to see the 73-year-old leader since November 4, 2025, despite repeated requests from his family and lawyers.

“His health is our concern. We are worried about his illegal isolation,” Bukhari told the media, urging the government and prison authorities to permit an urgent meeting.

He added that Khan, a former Prime Minister, was being denied both visits and adequate medical care, conditions he described as unprecedented and unacceptable.

How long has Imran Khan been in prison?

Khan has been imprisoned since August 2023 after being convicted on corruption charges in a series of cases he claims were fabricated to sideline him politically.

The powerful Pakistan Army, frequently accused by PTI of engineering political outcomes, denies any involvement.

Under standard prison rules, the former Prime Minister is entitled to meet visitors once a week, though authorities can temporarily suspend access for security reasons. PTI argues that these suspensions have become routine and excessively prolonged.

How did the rumours start and swirl?

On Thursday (November 27), a PTI delegation attempted to meet Khan at the Rawalpindi prison, but officials again refused permission. This has fuelled widespread speculation online, where many users expressed concern about his well-being.

Several PTI leaders amplified the #WHEREISIMRANKHAN trend, questioning why a former elected leader had been kept incommunicado for more than three weeks.

Some posts even alleged, without evidence, that authorities were preparing to shift him to a high-security facility to further restrict access, a claim that quickly went viral across Pakistani social media.

What did the jail unofficially claim?

A senior jail official, speaking anonymously to the media, rejected the speculation and insisted that Imran Khan was “in good health” and that he was not aware of any plan to move him to another location. The Interior Ministry has not issued any formal statement.

Imran Khan, a former international cricket star who rose to power in 2018, was ousted in 2022 following a fallout with military generals long seen as kingmakers in Pakistani politics.

What has happened in Pakistan since Khan’s arrest in 2023?

His arrest in May 2023 triggered nationwide protests and a sweeping crackdown on PTI supporters.

Although PTI emerged as the largest party in the 2024 elections, it alleges widespread rigging enabled rival parties to form a coalition government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, an accusation the government firmly denies.

With mounting uncertainty over the former Prime Minister’s condition and growing anger from supporters, pressure is intensifying on Pakistani authorities to provide clarity. For now, however, the question dominating both political circles and social media remains unanswered: Where is Imran Khan?
