While much smaller in size than its opponent Russia, Ukraine has developed and modernised its drone weaponry and has conducted several such strikes since the conflict between the two countries started in February 2022. In its latest drone offensive against Russia, Kyiv targeted several sites including key oil infrastructure and military sites.

Ukraine’s drone attack on Russia launched overnight into Saturday killed at least 3 people. Another 11 people got injured in the overnight drone strike on the Kharkiv region, Governor Oleh Syniehubov said. In its latest strike, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) and the SBU intelligence agency claimed they hit high-value targets in the Russian territory.

In the last 3 years, Kyiv has developed and significantly improved its drone warfare.

In Penza, a woman was killed and 2 others injured after a strike on the Elektropribor electronics facility. A security guard lost his life in the Rostov region.

Governors reported damage to industrial facilities in these and other regions. While there was no official statement from Russia on which sites and facilities were hit in the latest strikes by Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities later claimed they targeted key sites in energy and defense sectors.

On Friday, a day before the Ukrainian drone strikes, a Russian drone and missile attack killed 31 people, including five children, and wounded over 150.

Interestingly, the drone strikes by Russia on Ukraine touched their all-time high last month, an AFP analysis showed.
