The Indian Armed Forces have launched one of their most comprehensive and strategically significant joint exercises yet – Exercise Trishul – uniting the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Border Security Force under a single operational framework. Under this broader umbrella, the armed forces are conducting several drills.

In a showcase of jointness, the Indian Army has conducted Exercise Brahmashira in the Rann and Creek Sector. Among the most critical components of Exercise Trishul, this high-intensity tri-service drill saw the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and BSF operate in seamless coordination to validate joint task force integration and rapid response capabilities.

Brahmashira demonstrated the military’s ability to sustain multi-domain operations through the use of a state-of-the-art Joint Control Centre, advanced surveillance systems, and adaptive warfighting technologies, aligning with the Army’s Decade of Transformation initiative.

“Embodying the Indian Army’s Decade Of Transformation, the exercise integrates Joint Task Forces, a state-of-the-art Joint Control Centre and robust operational infrastructure to sustain multi-domain operations. It also validates new structures, advanced technologies and adaptive warfighting capabilities,” ADGPI said on X.

In the video shared by the Indian Army, the joint drills entailed night troop movements, Navy vessels operating in the shallow Sir Creek waters, joint operational control rooms, drone and radar-based surveillance grids, among others.

Multi-domain mastery: From cyber and drones to air-land-sea coordination

Under the Trishul framework, exercises are also focusing on emerging domains like electronic warfare, cyber operations, drone and counter-drone warfare, and ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance). These mission-focused validations are designed to test networked command systems, improve interoperability, and establish real-time situational awareness for coordinated joint fires across services.

Designed to validate India’s full-spectrum warfighting capabilities, Exercise Trishul represents the cutting edge of India’s Jointness, Atmanirbharta (self-reliance), and Innovation, the three pillars of modern Indian military doctrine. Exercise Trishul integrates multi-domain operations across land, sea, air, cyber, and space.

What makes Exercise Trishul a game-changer?

Exercise Trishul is not a single drill. It is a series of synchronised tri-service operations conducted across diverse terrains, from the Rann of Kutch and coastal sectors to the Thar Desert and high-tech joint control centres. It aims to test and refine the nation’s integrated warfighting architecture, validating the ability of different branches to operate as one cohesive force.

By involving not just the Armed Forces but also the Coast Guard, BSF, and civil administration, Trishul embodies India’s evolving doctrine of Military-Civil Fusion and a Whole-of-Nation approach to security.

Southern Command’s desert drills for combat readiness

In the Thar Desert, formations under the Southern Command are conducting Exercise MaruJwala and Exercise Akhand Prahaar, featuring combined arms manoeuvres, integrated mobility drills, and joint fire integration under realistic battlefield conditions.

These desert operations will culminate in a mega combat validation, bringing together air, land, and cyber assets to demonstrate precision targeting, multi-domain coordination, and joint warfighting excellence.

As Trishul continues across multiple theatres, it stands as a powerful symbol of India’s growing joint warfighting prowess and strategic maturity.
